Waiting is difficult. As humans, we are naturally impatient people. We want results now. We are a people of instant gratification. We throw TV dinners into the microwave and pick up prescriptions at a drive-up pharmacy. Lunch is available at the drive-up restaurant. After lunch, we can take care of our finances at a drive-up bank teller. We can, buy, eat, transact and run without even stepping out of the car. Instead of slowing down at the big yellow, we step on it. The sooner we get to where we’re going the better. This present culture, does not discipline us to wait. Waiting simply goes against the grain and being a Christian doesn’t make it easier.
Our predicament is that God puts us into the position of having to wait on Him. We’ve prayed that God would give us a husband or wife, and so far he hasn’t: we are still waiting. We’ve been praying for a more intimate relationship with the Lord: we’re so hungry for more of Him and we are still waiting. We’ve been praying for a long time for God to deliver us from a job situation, and He hasn’t: we’re still waiting. Some may be going through what could be called a “Tunnel Experience.” What’s a tunnel experience? It’s a dark time when nothing makes sense. You feel dead inside and the harder you try to get the victory over something the worse things seem to get. You explain to Christians what you’re going through, but they don’t understand. You don’t know how long you will be in the tunnel and you’re just waiting: all you can do is just keep on keeping on.
If you’re waiting on God now, He’s doing a work in your heart. Don’t be like the Children of Israel who lacked faith and died in the wilderness. Don’t give up on God. He loves you. If he didn’t he wouldn’t have sent His Son to die for you. Don’t accept a lie that you’re a second-class Christian. If you do, it is too easy to use that idea as a rationale for compromising with the world. Wait for His best. God is going to show up in your experience. God’s given us a promise in His Word and He’s not a liar. Isaiah 40:31 promises, “but those who hope [wait upon] in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Do you believe God? Are you willing to wait for Him? Don’t you believe that He has your best in mind? He’s not so preoccupied with “Important things” that He doesn’t have time for you. You’re not junk. He loves you and has a purpose for your life. Although it seems like forever you don’t have to take things into your own hands. Leave them with the Lord.
God knows who your husband or wife will be and is working in their hearts preparing them for you. He is going to grant you that more intimate relationship with Him. Remember, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they willll be filled.”[Matthew 5:6] God will step into your job situation and do a God Thing that will surprise you. God will use your tunnel experience to strengthen your faith and use you in the future to encourage and strengthen others.
Thank you, God. for what you are doing in our lives. Thank you for your promise. In Philippians 1:6 Paul assures us, “….being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
"...timing is important in the Christian life because God is orchestrating events to work for His children’s good. He rewards those who remain constant in their faithfulness."
